Outten & Golden is unlike most law firms that represent people. In addition to our mission driven culture, we have attorneys and professionals with immense talent and creativity, and deep resources that we use to make sure our business is responsive to the changing needs of workers.
At the heart of my job is our motto, “it’s always personal.”
With that in mind, I try to make sure that we reach across our relationships with workers — to explain how the law affects them, to provide resources that help them see the path forward, and to make sure our intake team is responsive to their needs.
I started working when I was 12 years old, stocking shelves at a local retailer. Since then, I haven’t stopped.
In my teens I hustled as a supermarket cashier, a German restaurant busboy, and a licensed New York City tour guide, the kind you see shouting on top of those ubiquitous double decker buses. During college, I ran around town, doing all sorts of ridiculous tasks for the ex-wife of a Major League Baseball team owner. I parlayed that experience into an internship at the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, getting him cigarettes and burritos, among other things.
Serious work followed after college, including several years at an international PR firm, and more than a decade at three of the country’s top law firms. Representing big business had its bright side, but generally I longed for work that was aligned with my progressive values.
I joined Outten & Golden in 2023, taking a piece of every work experience with me. The jobs, the bosses, the co-workers, the highs and lows, all of it has helped me see why work matters, and why every worker is deserving of respect. I’m proud to work at a place that understands that and uses its power to help employees.
It took 30 years to get here, but I can finally say my work has meaning. I hope yours does as well.
