Individuals who identify as transgender may be targets of discrimination and harassment in the workplace because of their transgender identity or gender identity and gender expression. Title VII of the federal Civil Rights Act outlaws same-sex sexual harassment based on gender stereotypes, and may also prohibit discrimination and harassment motivated by a person’s gender identity and gender expression, and identity as a transgender person.
