My Legal Practice

I work on class action cases, primarily representing workers who have been impacted by their employers’ unfair pay and overtime policies, or who’ve missed out on full wages and benefits because they’ve been misclassified as independent contractors.

I value building personal connections with my clients. When we first meet, they’re often fed up with being mistreated at work, but they aren’t sure if they have a legal claim. I talk with them about their challenges, build trust, and ask them the right questions to get to the root of the matter.
It’s rewarding when we’re able to share an “aha” moment about how their employer has been violating the law, and what we can do to get fair compensation for their work.

Notable Matters

  • Represented The California Civil Rights Department in reaching a historic $54.8 million settlement with Activision Blizzard, resolving allegations of gender discrimination in compensation, promotions and other practices.
  • Represented two former sales employees of Phenom, a software company, in a class and collective action involving such employees being misclassified as exempt from receiving overtime pay to which they were entitled.
  • On a team bringing a class action lawsuit against Amazon for its refusal to pay short-term military leave (e.g., for National Guard service or reservist deployment) despite providing other types of paid leave, such as jury duty, bereavement and sick leave.
  • On a team bringing two class action lawsuits against major delivery companies for misclassifying last-mile delivery drivers as independent contractors rather than employees, which effectively denied them overtime pay.

My Story

In college, I was very active in College Dems, and my first job was with a reproductive rights advocacy group. Through both experiences, I saw the power that lawyers hold to shape our society – whether as litigators in court, as policy experts, or as trusted voices in public debates.

I went to law school, where I kept advocating for social change. In 2018, I co-founded the People’s Parity Project (PPP), a national non-profit with chapters on upwards of 20 law school campuses. PPP organizes law students and attorneys to advocate for a democratized legal system which empowers working people over corporate power.

My interest in employment law grew naturally from this theme of giving workers greater power. Being here at Outten & Golden gives me the opportunity to do that meaningful work every day.
