International Lawyers as Clients

On May 7, at the ABA Midyear Meeting of the Section of Labor and Employment Law, the International Committee presented a panel– “Restrictive Covenants and Labor Mobility: A Case Study of Non-Competes, and Choice-of-Law Provisions, in the Legal Profession.”

The panel featured Outten & Golden LLP partner and former committee co-chair Wendi S. Lazar, who represents lawyers in partnership agreements, separations, team moves and negotiates and defends restrictive covenant cases. The panel also included expert international attorneys in this area – Claire Murray of CM Murray in London, Francois Berbinau of BFPL in Paris and Thomas Rihm of Thouvenin Rechtsanwalte & Partner in Paris.

The discussion focused on the legal and ethical issues involved when lawyers move from firm to firm in the multinational are and the enforcement of restrictions as well as There ethical and legal issues. All speakers addressed the strategic issues involved and provided practical solutions to the problems.
