Nearly $1.6 million in unclaimed settlement funds will support Equal Rights Advocates and the National Women’s Law Center’s work to advance gender equity.
As part of the $215 million settlement secured by Outten & Golden and Leiff Cabraser in Chen-Oster v. Goldman Sachs, a cy pres award of nearly $1.6 million has been distributed to Equal Rights Advocates and the National Women’s Law Center. A cy pres award delivers settlement funds that were not claimed by class members to nonprofits whose work advances the goals of the case.
Equal Rights Advocates and the National Women’s Law Center have long been leaders in the fight for gender equity at work, helping to expand protections against discrimination, challenge systemic barriers, and support women seeking fair treatment and equal opportunity.
This award underscores the broader significance of the Goldman Sachs litigation, a class action filed in 2010 that challenged systemic gender bias in pay, performance evaluations, and promotions on behalf of thousands of women at one of Wall Street’s most powerful institutions. By directing unclaimed settlement funds to organizations working to advance gender justice, the award extends the case’s impact and supports continued efforts to strengthen workplace equality.
