Outten & Golden LLP partner Wendi S. Lazar is among 30 outstanding lawyers included in the New York Law Journal‘s “Top Women in the Law 2016.”

Co-Chair of Outten & Golden’s Executives and Professionals Practice Group, Ms. Lazar is among honorees from the legal, corporate, public interest, and academic communities, the law journal announced. “These outstanding attorneys, gathered with the help of recommendations from the legal community, are making strides to push the legal profession forward for women,” journal editors said.

Wayne N. Outten, co-founder and managing partner of Outten & Golden, said, “This honor reflects Wendi’s three-dimensional leadership – as a practicing lawyer, as a leader in our firm, and as a leader in the professional community. We are proud that Outten & Golden, with Wendi’s help, has become the largest firm in the United States that focuses exclusively on representing employees, including executives and partners.”

Ms. Lazar said, “I thank the legal community and the New York Law Journal editors for this recognition. It reflects my deep commitment to improving the lives of women in our profession and Outten & Golden’s strong record of representing executives and for protecting and promoting the rights of employees against injustices in the workplace.”

As Co-Chair of the firm’s Executives and Professionals Practice Group, Ms. Lazar’s practice focuses on executive agreements, including retention, expatriate, non-competition, talent, severance, and compensation arrangements. She represents, among others, teams of executives, founders, and partners transitioning during sales, mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions for clients at portfolio and public companies, financial institutions, and entertainment, advertising and media companies. Her practice is international in scope. She also is co-chair of the firm’s Individual Practice Area and is Co-Chair of its Marketing Committee.

Mr. Outten added, “Wendi has assisted hundreds of executives and professionals dealing with transitions or with other work-related issues. Because of her consistently excellent work, she is one of the most sought-after attorneys – not only in New York, but also around the world- when executives and professionals need help. Not surprisingly, under her leadership, her practice group has grown steadily, with attorneys in our New York, San Francisco and Chicago offices representing executives and professionals on a daily basis.”

Ms. Lazar serves on the ABA’s Commission on Women in the Profession (CoWiP), as one of 12 Commissioners in the country, where she heads the Sexual Harassment and Gender-Based Bullying Committee. She represented the CoWiP before the ABA House of Delegates as a supporting entity for amending the ABA model ethics rule on harassment and discrimination, and she successfully advocated, along with other entities and the ABA Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility (SCEPR), for passage of a black letter rule in the House – a major milestone achievement for the profession and for the ABA.

Ms. Lazar is an active member of various committees and activities of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA), the American Bar Association (ABA), and the National Employment Lawyers Association. She is the Diversity Co-Chair and a member of the Executive Committee of the NYSBA’s Labor & Employment Section, and she is former Employee Co-Chair of the International Labor and Employment Law Committee of the ABA’s Section of Labor and Employment Law. She writes a quarterly column for the New York Law Journal and she lectures regularly on employment issues to bar associations and industry groups. She has authored numerous articles and book chapters published on employment matters.

Martindale-Hubbell recognizes Ms. Lazar as an AV “Preeminent” rated attorney.
