Still, the main event right now for both plaintiffs and defendants is a pair of cases that Outten & Golden brought against Hearst Corporation and Fox Searchlight Pictures Inc. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit has consolidated the cases and tentatively scheduled oral arguments for January to resolve an existential issue for the fast-expanding litigation: whether interns deserve wage protections granted to “employees” under state and federal labor laws.
