A U.S. District Court judge has approved a settlement in a class-action lawsuit filed against Woonsocket-based CVS Caremark Corp. by the drugstore chain’s assistant store managers.

CVS has agreed to pay $5,000 each to hundreds of people who were employed as assistant store managers for the chain between mid-2003 and mid-2009 $34 million, in all, less attorney’s fees and costs. The two sides reached the agreement through court-supervised mediation.

The lawsuit alleged the assistant managers were paid improperly by the chain.
